Kantha embroidery is an ancient technique of embroidery that is still performed today. It is time intensive and developed from the way women in Bengal mended damage to old clothes by taking out a strand of thread from the colorful border of their saris and making simple designs with them. Motifs found in Kantha embroidery include many symbols reflective of nature, such as the sun, the tree of life and the the universe.
