Lockwood de Forest carved & inlaid lift top chest
Gorgeous teak and pine profusely carved and inlaid chest designed by Lockwood de Forest with a teak outer and pine inner chest. This has a teak panel with inlay surrounded by an intricately carved foliate border, and is a great example of the “exotic” furniture that he designed and produced at the Ahmedabad Woodcarving Company.
Lockwood de Forest (1850- 1932), an American artist, furniture and interior designer was a key figure in the Aesthetic movement, and was highly sought after by gilded age patrons. His furniture is exhibited in multiple museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
