This is a set of 4 original Verner Panton chairs in white, made from Bayer polyurethane from Germany. They are in excellent vintage condition.

Danish designer Verner Panton developed the idea of a plastic cantilever chair in the late 1950s. However, the chair was thought to be too revolutionary for the time, and multiple manufacturers rejected this until the Vitra-Verner Panton collaboration. A small pilot series of 150 pieces was manufactured in 1967 using cold-pressed, glass-fibre reinforced polyester, which was the first all-plastic one piece chair to be made with a cantilever design. But it was a costly and complex procedure, and impossible to keep up with the ensuing demand. The first successful mass production was with rigid polyurethane foam from Bayer with an innovative moulding technique in 1968. Other variations of this chair have been made since, but this is a classic.
