This is a gorgeous Ebony, ivory & Porcupine Quill hexagonal Box, made in Ceylon in the 1870s. It has a brass carrying handle, and a lock, however the lock does not work.

This is a very fine box with a lot of work. As a general rule, the more work that has gone into the box, the finer and rarer it is. This box has a large number of ivory (has not been tested, however it is reported to be) discs that are in close proximity together, which are a good indication of a valuable box.

It is in excellent condition for age.
